Dermal Fillers
-
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are often administered to replenish the skin by reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Popular fillers (e.g. Juvederm, Restylane, and Versa) are typically derived from hyaluronic acid (i.e. HA, a sugar molecule that naturally occurs in the cells of the skin) which hydrates our skin.
The viscosity and nature of each filler differs depending on the type. Meaning, one type of filler won't provide the answer to improve the appearance of every single skin concern. Your practitioner will recommend a type of filler based on your specific area of concern.
-
How do dermal fillers work?
Fillers are injected into the skin with a tiny needle to target areas of the face that have experienced tissue loss, restoring the volume and the structural integrity.
Common facial areas typically include:
• the lips—to reshape or create symmetry
• the cheeks—to offer a more defined appearance
• the chin—to improve appearance and proportions
• Nasolabial folds and marionette lines
-
Is is painful?
Many patients often describe the filler injection to feel like a quick pinch, only causing minimal discomfort. You will be numbed topically with anesthetic. There are additional numbing agents in the filler itself as well.
-
What are some benefits of dermal fillers?
The greatest, and most visible, the benefit of dermal fillers is the overall improved appearance. Fillers are incredibly effective in correcting tissue loss, as well as offering a boost of confidence.
-
When can I expect to see results?
You'll be able to notice immediate effects of the dermal fillers, but the full effects will continue to improve 2-4 weeks after treatment. Some patients may experience bruising or swelling, but overall, dermal fillers are incredibly safe.
-
How long do dermal fillers last?
Depending on the type of filler, quantity, the area treated, etc., you can expect dermal fillers to last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. Even though filler treatment isn't permanent, you can see long-lasting effects by maintaining regular treatments.
Dysport
-
What is Dysport?
Dysport is an FDA-approved neurotoxin injectable, also utilized for its efficacy in reducing the appearance of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and lines without changing the look or movement in the rest of your face.
-
How does Dysport work?
Neuromodulators including Dysport, Botox, and Xeomin work by relaxing muscles to limit their movement around the injection site. When Dysport is injected under the skin, the muscles relax and the overlying skin becomes smoother which reduces the appearance of facial creases and wrinkles.
Not only does Dysport reduce the presence of existing wrinkles, but by relaxing the muscles you limit further facial muscle movements which helps to prevent new wrinkles from forming.
-
What areas/concerns does Dysport address?
Much like other neuromodulators, Dysport is primarily used to reduce the presence of facial wrinkles. Specifically, Dysport can improve the look of:
• Moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines/11’s)
• Moderate to severe crow’s feet lines
• Moderate to severe forehead lines
• You may receive Dysport treatment for frown lines, crow’s feet lines, and forehead lines at the same time
• Lip flip
• Downward corners of the mouth
-
How long does a Dysport treatment take?
Injections can be performed on average in about 10 – 20 minutes.
-
Does a Dysport treatment hurt?
Dysport injectables fall at a 1 on the pain scale on a pain scale of 1 to 5. (1 – least pain; 5 – most pain.)
-
Is there downtime after a Dysport treatment?
There is minimal to no downtime. You may resume your daily activities or return to work after receiving a Dysport treatment.
Mild redness or bruising may occur at injection sites. Redness will typically resolve within 30 minutes to one hour. Bruising may last for several weeks. Mild soreness may be present lasting hours to days. Severe reactions rarely occur, but a comprehensive review of your medical history, medications, history of reactions should be discussed with your provider to minimize that risk.
We do recommend a two-week minimum separation from special events to avoid the presence of bruising.
-
How long until I notice a difference with Dysport?
Dysport typically will start to take effect at 4 to 5 days post-injection. Maximum results in 10-14 days.
-
How long will results from a Dysport treatment last?
Dysport results typically last approximately 2.5 to 4 months but may last shorter or longer. Repeated treatments will be necessary for continued effect.
-
How much does Dysport treatment cost?
The cost is highly variable. Each unit cost of Dysport varies based on the discretion of the service provider. Dysport treatments are priced according to the number of units used during the procedure. The amount of Dysport each patient will need differs based on the number of facial areas treated and the strength of each targeted facial muscle. Pricing may range based on units used and your desired outcome.
-
Are there contraindications for using Dysport?
